Various Artists- Untold Stories- Volume 1 [Juicebox Music]
by Priya Sen October 2, 2014Juicebox Music is generating a fair bit of excitement, with a trail of fresh releases from under the new series- ”Untold Stories”, that’ll be show-casing remixes and different takes on the original cuts, those which never saw the light of day. An initiative that also dedicates its time to introducing upcoming producers as well as established artists in a whole new light.
Various Artists- Untold Stories Volume 1, kicks the pack off with Dios S – ”Una Happiness”, Belgium producer Makrostorung’s Remix, which is an exemplary case of how to reckon with artistic traditions, discard novel repetition and spur a track on towards new creative possibilities. While the original has great amounts of class written over it, this remake strips it down and makes for a ware house gem full of melodic re-wiring. Choppy bass and wonky pads finish it off with fuming flair. Making over Simon Firth’s- ”Stress Test”, SEQU3L aka Nakul Nambiar from Pune in India, his remix stands tall with shiny synth strings giving the original a full bodied feel. The riffs sound moody and melancholic around the subdued Bass, yet there’s a euphoric quality and enough progressive nature, necessitating a peak time throw down.
The third offering of the pack shows us ”Homenaje”- Diego Azocar’s original is re-worked by Abhijith Hegde aka Weird Sounding Dude from Bangalore, India. It does it’s job, of being an invigorating Techie outing. With booty shaking bass , underground sonar clicks of melody, this remix is calculatingly my favorite. The last one ”Technology”, again a Diego Azocar original is tackled by Phalguna Somraj from Hyderabad. The remix may not quite make the cutting edge doors, yet has an ”up in flames” kind of uplifting feel to it. The clipped hi hats, bass line and synth stabs are all in place without succumbing to anything excessive. I reckon the polish will come over time, and the future is looking bright for the young guns.
