Nick Warren & Guy Mantzur – Sad Robot, feat. Musumeci Remix [Bedrock]
by Priya Sen March 17, 2015It’s fair to say, that when Nick Warren collaborates with Tel Aviv Dj/Producer Guy Mantzur, to bring out “Sad Robot” that see’s a release on the gigantic Bedrock label, one is left holding their breath with how good this pot boiler looks on sight.
The two of them bring more than just polished musicality. Both of them are ready to let it all go in a casing of splendorous grooves. A choppy organ, provides melody, of rare quality. The bass line has an atmospheric reach which is not afraid and reaches out to every part of your head. The tightness of the production is immediately felt, when the track sets up the discordant arrangements of the jittering melody play, velvety synths against the background wrapped in echoing far away vocalism. The splintering, stomping back room feel, accentuates the mid- section like no other.
On the flip, the monstrous original is tackled by Sicilian Dj/Producer Mauro Di Martino aka Musumeci who provides us with the lone remix. This one has a frenetic pace around it, there’s a twisty, convulsive beat that matches the engaging bass line, holding it’s own in the entire scheme of things. Not an easy task, when the source material of the original happens to be excellent fare. But what he does do, is add a euphoric element by treating the melody with pulsing effect. The bass is simultaneously tight and elastic endlessly going up and down with not a care in the world.
Great stuff on the whole!!
