Blusoul – Modular Memories, incl. Guy Mantzur Remix [Lost & Found]
by Priya Sen November 10, 2015An EP to top all EPs in this year full of fantastic music comes from dare I say the rather unsuspecting, Greek DJ/Producer we all know so well as Blusoul. Releasing shortly on Guy J’s fabulous label Lost & Found, Blusoul’s one tracker titled – “Modular Memories” is all sorts of divine. The original mix covers everything the label stands for in more ways than one, and what’s more it gives us thick belches of throwback late night smooth grooves with such splendor, one can only catch their breath in delight. Those textured soft beats and vocals, billow out like cottony clouds around for your aural pleasure and then the melody line pulses all over the place like a long lost friend one finds again and again as the tune progresses. Lilting sulky shadowy groves and bends make up for that lumbering bass, giving the track a mesmerizing upliftment like no other. The sunken discordant notes have a sophisticated face and then some and that’s right this one goes right up that classic list.
The ways of alchemy is a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination and that which brings to the release, another cutting edge producer who needs no introduction such is his musicality, is none other than Guy Mantzur who treats the tune with vigor no doubt. Trouble is, what is there is already gold. It’s interesting to see his tackle but the great beauty of the original cannot be forgotten easily, or just yet! Having said that, Mantzur fuses in an acidic tempo and bass line, on top of that there’s an amp in the humidity, in comparison to some in the original mix, that wraps around breezy rhythms and blocky beats. The percussion is submerged in layers, moving in cluttered interiors of conventional progressive motions. There’s also dense bounce and enough percolation in this version, one can get lost in (pun intended), no problem.
