System Error [Part One] is the first single taken from Phraktal’s forthcoming debut artist album, “Why 1 is One and 2 is Two”, on Christian Boshell’s new Bakroom label.
Phraktal happens to be one of Ireland’s most exciting prospects for 2015, formed by Christian Boshell & John O’Dwyer (Casper), who have both been highly active within the Irish electronic music/club scene for some years now.
The subdued opening stabs of “System Error” fools you in to thinking it’s one of those quiet unassuming ones, until the track widens out with resonant wobbly bass, echoing Vocals join the fiery interior. Fast paced, heavy thuds of chunky beats meet a subtle percussive drive and everything just goes fabulous from then on. There’s some jazzy licks in there too. A solid, solid gambit, only means a busy dance floor with this original.

Roland Klinkenberg provides the first remix for the title track, that goes watery underground. It’s funk injected, amidst swirling clunky percussions. The track churns you inside out with a chugging bass line and some whimsical atmospheric antics, just supreme to the ears. Throw in dollops of bubbles, clicks and a rolling snare and it finishes you off by the end, with its stand out rework magic.
Dublin based Silinder gives you the second remix, and his take is contemporary, hot off the oven fare. A dark and eerie representation of the original, this simple and austere version, is to put it simply, wondrous. The pulsing melody line is some kinda cosmic nice. An undeniable synth takes over your senses and one can only swoon in eyes closed, delight. The outstanding mastering on this record, is not lost on me and one can clearly hear the playful interplay between the crisp hi- hats and the subterranean bass licks.

This is classic stuff!!
