Rave Angel, Wonderland, Shifting Reality- Robert Babicz [Bedrock]
by Priya Sen July 29, 2014Cologne based Dj producer Robert Babicz is really a jewel in all our collective dance crowns. The latest in a spate of several fabulous releases, he is once again in the fore front with a cracking, mind numbing three tracks package, out on 4th of August. Steered by none other than bigger than big- BEDROCK. The entire gamut is a cunning serenade to every club goer.
Opening the thrilling threesome up, the master engineer serves up-”Rave Angel”, which is a design of a fierce landscape to musically intelligent grooves, very unique and very 2014. The track captures a thuddering Bass line and a shiny knife like synth covering on top, crafty and booming all at the same time. There’s a heavily distorted riff that just cuts you aurally, with the melody yummy enough to eat. There’s no restraint in the chord rotation and throbbing pulsing body. It’s just gritty and acid for me.
Jumping straight in to ”Wonderland”- this one gets a restraining order as it starts off smooth and easing out to a kinda party space. Just as I get comfortable.. all the machinations of the tune start at once with gloopy instrumentation, spitting bass shine and a sputtering lazy melodic line to mesmerizing effect. By the break down, I am in a swoon at Babicz’s audio audacity of a jacking beat consciousness.. Quietly fierce this one.
It’s all lovely as I save up my favorite floor shaping gem for the last, cause it’s a straight forward underground bass heavy beauty. The atmospheric interior has subdued dreamy melody pads filled in between with disorientating edginess, coupled with a quiet snare and fluid beats. Top the cherry up with a Trumpet sample that cascades in and out for just the right amount of time and I sneer in delight. It’s the darkest of the lot but kicks the hardest. Bravo Robert Babicz!!
