Sahar Z & Chicola- Smoothy Moody/They Made Me Do It [Lost & Found]
by Priya Sen October 3, 2014Guy J’s imprint Lost & Found returns in October, with Tel Aviv music boss- Sahar Z and fellow Dj/Producer, long standing friend Chicola. The latter also happens to be part of the elite brigade of artists coming out of the Israeli dance circuit.
The latest offering from the label puts down two sparkling tracks, a collaborative effort between the aforementioned performers. Both of whom are nudging their musical ways across nearly every dance floor of the world. Spawning across two glorious original productions, the first titled- ”Smoothy Moody”, is a story to behold the entire eleven minutes, as it chugs along like a weighty warrior filled with an armory of melodious Bass tone. An apparent strut, shuffling grooves take hold, resonant synth stabs coast atop a slab of sub-bass, and the melodic line holds center-stage, all part of the great sound scape. From there on the kick thrusts the track forward, looping hypnotically so. The bpm has been dialed down a tad bit, which allows the the Sahar Z and Chicola handiwork to explore the atmospheric corners of an entire room. There’s a nice amount of fizzle and crackle in the back ground to melt with, to drift around in.
Side B gives way to ”They Made Me Do It”, and one can see the Sahar & Chicola audaciousness come in to it’s own. It’s a missile aimed to conquer floors. Whipping crack snares propel the back end of the tune, with loads of hoity toity attitude. The effect is narcotic, as the full bodied offering takes on monochromatic rhythms that gallop about, and drifts of expansive melody pads snake around your brains. At once hypnotizing, the murky tension frolics with the pulsating bass making it, good enough to eat. The two sequencers of this outing are having a fantastic time musically, their heads are in a great place and it’s showing..
